Blogging | Photographers

August 15, 2011 I wrote my very first blog post and I was terrified! I didn’t think that my work was good enough, that I had a voice or even a story. Why would anyone read anything that I had to say? If you’ve started a blog of your own I’m sure you know exactly what I am talking about. Slowly but surely I got up the nerve to write and I’ve started to attract brides that are more and more like me.

For the past year and a half I have done my best to write everyday and it has changed my business tremendously. I went from meeting with couples in Starbucks who rarely booked me to booking almost all of my couples online.  Why? Because they have an online reference of who I am and the work that I create. Anyone that reads my blog gets a little sneak peek into my life and can stay up to date with my current work. Sure it’s hard sometimes and there are days when I don’t want to write, but I know that someone out there is reading it.

I know that blogging isn’t for everyone, but if it is something that you want to do I encourage you to bite the bullet and just start. So many people say they will start when they get their blog to look exactly how they would like, well guess what? I’m not a huge fan of my blog layout, but I am thankful to have a tool that I can connect with others through. I recently found this quote and I thought that it was so appropriate in so many areas of life/business.

“If you really want to do something, no one can stop you. But if you really don’t want to do something, no one can help you.”

I completely understand and could not agree MORE! Putting yourself out there for the entire world to see can be terrifying. On the same note, people want to connect. They want to know that their photographer is like a friend; someone they can trust to ‘take care of them’ on their special day. You definitely are someone that I would consider a friend. Great post!

Including Bella in Our Wedding

When Daniel and I started planning our wedding we knew that we had to include Bella. When you have a cute precious pup it’s a no brainer, right? This pretty girl has been a huge part of our relationship and there from the very start. Watching Daniel take care of her the last few years has warmed my heart. Cheesy I know, but so true!

We knew from the start that we wanted an outdoor wedding so having her there wouldn’t be a problem. Our only concern was that she might be tempted to jump in the lake, but when the ceremony came around she was much more interested in greeting everyone than swimming. Our wonderful florist, Mrs. Cyndi of Twigs, Leaves and Flowers made her the prettiest neck wreath I ever did see and she just loved it!

Thanks to all of Bella’s modeling experience (Click HERE or HERE ) she was ready for the camera and knew how to work it! Haha I kid, but she did do a great job looking at the camera! Looking back now I can’t imagine our wedding day without her being there. Her precious puppy heart made our day so special!

A HUGE thanks to Red Fly Studios for capturing Belly perfectly at our wedding!

This is my favorite blog post to date. It’s the animal lover in me. What a pretty girl! I love her flower necklace! I couldn’t imagine not having our furry friends in our lives. This is precious!

I so wish our sweet pup would have been at our wedding! Every time I see pictures like these it makes me smile. Furry friends are the best!

Noon Weddings, Plants and Realizing I’m Just Like my Mom

This weekend for the first time ever I had a noon wedding and it was amazing! I woke up bright and early, headed out the door and was home by 4! Woah! It felt so strange to have “normal” working hours on a wedding day, but I loved every minute of it! The weather has been super unpredictable the past few weeks so when it was gorgeous on Saturday I couldn’t have been more thankful! Sunday was a different story with lots of rain and it was just plain icky. I feel like I have had to reschedule almost every single engagement session that was set in April due to the weather and I am crossing my fingers that May will be GORGEOUS! In other news, here are a few random happenings from the weekend…

- Daniel woke up with a nasty stomach bug Sunday morning and I instantly transformed into my mother. Back rubs, liquids and constant pampering are in store until he feels better!

- Last week Daniel and I decorated our front porch and I am already noticing that one of my hanging plants is dying. The fact that I dropped if from six feet the first time I tried to hang it may have something to do with it, I’m really hoping that I can keep the rest of the plants alive!

- I’m slowly realizing that putting a mirror behind my monitor wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. For some reason I am constantly tempted to part it down the middle now…

- One day I WILL do a post about my office, there are still a few things I would like to do (framing prints, possibly a rug, etc.) as soon as I feel like it is completely “done” I will get it up!

- Elicia Bryan second shot with me this weekend and I am so thankful that she grabbed this photo of Daniel and I. To often I forget to document our own lives. Thank you Elicia!

Happy Monday, be sure to make it a great one! Xoxo!

You are too cute!! Love that blazer and I turn into my mother whenever Andrew or one of my roommates is sick/hurt too! Isn’t that so funny?!
